On the extreme eastern part of the Nicoya Pennisula, this refuge is found within Curú farm. The entrance to this farm is 5 km from the town of Paquera. The road in is betteredand is 1,5 km long. The farm is 31 km Puntarenas and 142 from San José. In spite of its smallness, the refuge has three types of habitats: semicacifolious forest, mengrove swamp and beach vegetation.

The fauna is quite varied with deer; raccoons and 115 species of birds. The refuge has three beautifully scenic beaches which are very nice for swimming and diving because of their gentle waves.
